Plant Points Program

What is the Plant Points Program?
It's a way to build your collection of carnivorous plants while saving you money!  With every qualifying purchase, you earn Plant Points.  When you accumulate enough Plant Points, you can redeem them for carnivorous plants of your choosing!  And unlike other points programs, you can use your earned points immediately!  This program started January 27, 2009.  Points are issued only to orders placed after the initiation of this program.  (If you want to use PayPal to earn Plant Points, please read the PayPal section below.)


How do Plant Points work?
Every carnivorous plant in our inventory is assigned a Plant Points value.  Whenever you purchase a plant through the website, you earn Plant Points associated with that plant.  When we package and ship your order, we'll add your qualifying Plant Points to your online account.  When you accumulate enough Plant Points, you can apply them to future plant purchases (excluding gift certificates and shipping fees). 

Plant Points are issued with online purchases only.  Phone orders and orders made at local events are excluded from this program. (If you want to use PayPal to earn Plant Points, please read the PayPal section below.)


If I want to add something to my order after I submit it, can I call you or send you an email to add it to my existing order?  Will I get plant points for the additional plants?

The point system is integrated with our the website.  For this reason, points are only available for orders placed through the website.   If you want to add to your order and obtain plant points, place a second order online.  If the second order is placed before the cutoff time, we'll combine both orders and adjust the shipping accordingly.


How much are Plant Points worth?
For every 10 Plant Points you earn, you can apply $1 towards a future purchase. So if you accumulate 100 Plant Points, you can apply $10 towards your next purchase.

100 Plant Points = $10


Are the Plant Points associated with a product always the same?
Just as we may discount the price of a plant, we may also increase or decrease the points associated with a plant, depending on promotions or specials. In general, consider the points program like a sale that changes as the inventory changes.


How can find out how many Plant Points I have?
You'll need to sign in to your account.  After you sign in, a box entitled Your Plant Points will appear on the right side of the page.  In that box, you'll see the amount of points in your shopping cart, as well as your earned points and your pending points.


What's the difference between pending and earned Plant Points?
When you complete your online purchase, Plant Points from your shopping cart are placed in your account as pending. While your points are pending, you won't be able to use them just yet. When we package and ship your order, we will change the status of your Plant Points from pending to earned. Only earned Plant Points are redeemable.  Most orders are shipped within a week (weather permitting), so allow at least a week before your pending points are upgraded to earned points.


How do I redeem my Plant Points?
When you accumulate enough earned points, you can apply them to your next purchase. On the Payment Method page during the checkout process, there's be a box to select if you wish to use your earned points. Click the box and indicate how many points you want to to apply towards your purchase (excluding gift certificates and shipping fees).

Make sure to review your order on the Confirmation page and that the Plant Points are properly applied before submitting your order! We cannot apply points to an order after it's submitted.  All points must be redeemed during the checkout process only. If you need assistance placing your order, call us and we will guide you through the process over the phone.


Is there a minimum amount of Plant Points I need before I start using them?
You will need a minimum of 10 earned Plant Points to apply them to your purchase.


Is there a minimum amount I need to purchase to use my Plant Points?
You will need to purchase a minimum of $20 if you want to use your points.


Is there a maximum amount of Plant Points I can use in a single purchase?
Currently there is no maximum amount of points you can redeem per order. So start saving up for those really rare plants!

If I forget to apply my earned Plant Points to an order awaiting shipping, can I call you to apply it manually?
Sorry, points must be redeemed online during the checkout process only.  We cannot apply points to an order after it's submitted.


Do my Plant Points expire?
As long as your account with us is in good standing and the Plant Points Program is in effect, your Plant Points are always valid. 


Will I earn points for discounted plants?
You will earn points for any plant with an assigned Plant Points value.


Will I earn Plant Points when I purchase plants with my earned Plant Points?
You are awarded points for the portion of your purchase made without plant points.


Can I give my Plant Points to my friends?
All points are non-transferable and are only associated with your account.


Are there any item restrictions to which I may apply my Plant Points?
Restricted items include gift certificates and shipping fees.  Other than those two items, you can apply your earned Plant Points towards any purchase of plants, supplies, e-book, DVD and Plant of the Month membership fees.

Please note that the checkout system doesn't prevent you from using Plant Points to purchase gift certificates. So if you purchase gift certificates using Plant Points, we reserve the right to cancel your order or hold it until we confirm another form of payment. Any points used to purchase a gift certificate may or may not be refunded, upon our discretion.


Can I purchase plants using earned Plant Points and a gift certificate?
Yes, the gift certificate is regarded as another form of payment. We just don't allow the use of points to purchase gift certificates.


So what's this thing about PayPal?
The automatic accumulation of Plant Points is currently NOT compatible with the PayPal checkout system. Points are automatically delivered to your account only if you select credit card or money order as your form of payment. With PayPal transactions, we have to manually assign your points. So if you purchase via PayPal, you will not see any points in your account initially after your purchase.  After we package and ship your order, we will manually add your earned Plant Points to your account.  Records of your points will also be indicated in your confirmation email and your order history.  Please allow up to 7 days after your order is shipped to see the points in your account.

Please keep in mind that we're busy humans with a lot of distractions around us, so we may forget to add your Plant Points to your account. Don't take it personally or get upset about it. If we happen to forget, we most likely got distracted by one of many never-ending projects around the nursery.  Just send us a gentle and friendly reminder within 30 days of your purchase. Please include your order number when contacting us. 

Again, this only applies to PayPal transactions. If you pay with money order or credit card through the website, your Plant Points will accumulate automatically.  


Once I accumulate Plant Points, can I apply those points towards my purchase, even if I use PayPal?
Yes. It's only the accumulation of points that is affected with PayPal transactions.


Overview of the Plant Points Program
• Plant Points can only be earned and used with online purchases with Sarracenia Northwest. Each plant has an assigned Plant Points value. The total amount of the Plant Points in your shopping cart is added to your online account.
• Plant Points are not issued or redeemed with phone orders or purchases at local events.
• Plant Points are redeemable only after they change status from pending to earned. Pending Plant Points are non-redeemable.
• If you cancel your order or request a refund for any reason, all Plant Points issued with your order will be removed from your account.
• Plant Points are non-refundable once you apply them to a purchase, even if you cancel the order for any reason.
• Plant Points are non-transferable.
• Plant Points are exchanged at a value of $1 per 10 Plant Points and are good for purchases made online. Some restrictions apply. 
• Plant Points are non-exchangeable for cash, shipping fees and gift certificates under any circumstances.
• When buying with Plant Points, you will still have to select another payment method, such as credit card or money order, to cover shipping fees.
• We reserve the right to change the conditions of the Plant Points program without notice. Please visit this page periodically for updates and new guidelines.
